Another successful Market Research Conference was held at The Grange Hotel, Tower Bridge, the week beginning March 12 2018. S2F Event Management were delighted to be supporting the Market Research Society (MRS) during IMPACT week.

The MRS is the UK professional body for research, insight and analytics. MRS recognise 5,000 individual members and over 500 accredited Company Partners in over 50 countries who are committed to delivering outstanding insight.

The conference began with a welcome from Jane Frost CBE, CEO of MRS and Stan Sthanunathan, conference patron and EVP consumer and market insights, Unilever. On a topical note the first keynote speaker, Jayne-Anne Gadhia , CEO of Virgin Money discussed women in business, the modern challenge of achieving a work-life balance and the winning back of customer trust. The audience were keen to engage, and the day continued in the same vein with eager questions asked from those attending.

There was plenty to interest the delegates; three rooms hosted various themes including, Adapting to change in society and culture and Opportunities through technology and data. Influential keynote speakers, Ian Hislop, David Schneider, Dexter Dias QC and Val McDermid gave entertaining and thoughtful interviews, leaving the delegates with much to digest over the two days.

After months of careful planning in conjunction with the Sports Journalists’ Association we can conclude another successful gala evening took place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge on Monday 26 February, to honour those members of the SJA Association. Guests enjoyed a three course meal as Jim Rosenthal compered the glittering night as journalists from a background of writing, broadcasting and photography were applauded for their dedication and expertise.

          • Daniel Taylor, chief football writer for the Guardian and the Observer, was named Sports Writer of the Year for 2017 and also won Football Journalist of the Year, an award sponsored by UEFA Together #WePlayStrong. Richard Conway, of BBC Sports News, was named Broadcast Journalist of the Year while The BBC’s Mark Chapman won the Broadcast Sports Presenter category. The Sun’s Richard Pelham took the award of SJA Sports Photographer of the Year, sponsored by Canon. The Doug Gardner Award, which honours a member of the SJA who has made an outstanding contribution to sports journalism and the Association, went to the SJA’s former chair David Walker.

Sponsored by the National Lottery, the awards were attended by more than 500 guests including 16 places given by the National Lottery to next-generation journalists.

The SJA have named the shortlisted contenders for five photography categories at the British Sports Journalism Awards, sponsored by the National Lottery.

The winners and those highly commended entries are due to be announced at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza on Monday February 26th. The ceremony, hosted by Jim Rosenthal will include the announcement of the SJA Photographer of the Year, chosen from among the category winners.

This year the SJA welcome Canon as award partners. They will support their Sports Portfolio and Photographer of the Year awards.

A new category, ‘Away from the Action’ – for an outstanding single picture taken away from the field of play has replaced the Rio 2016 Portfolio category. Entries for the new award could include portraits, features or sports news photos.

David Ofield, chairman of judges, said: “It is always a privilege to be involved in the photographic judging of the Sports Journalism Awards.

“As demands on photographers continue to grow, the quality of the pictures judged in this year’s competition were of the highest standard.

“A number of portfolios stood out in terms of quality and creativity. The judges had some difficult decisions to make but after lengthy deliberations all the judges were unanimous in their final selections.

“I would like to thank all the photographers that entered this year and congratulations to the nominees.”

The England Golf Awards, will be held at the Royal Lancaster London, 22 February 2018. This Gala Awards Dinner is set to be a memorable evening – and you can be a part of the golfing community’s black-tie awards ceremony.

It has been another record breaking year for entries for the 2017 SJA British Sports Journalism Awards – with more entries across the writing, broadcasting and photography categories than ever before.

First held in 1976, the awards are now in their 41st year and are proving just as popular, with over 550 entries having been received. The judges are now busy considering the quality of all the submissions and short lists will be published in early February on the SJA website.

The gala dinner and award ceremony will be held at the Westminster Bridge Park Plaza Hotel on Monday February 26 – and tickets are now on sale. The ceremony will be hosted by experienced broadcaster, Jim Rosenthal.
